Oracle Cloud SCM Introduction

Happy New Year 2017 !!!

With the advent of Oracle SCM Cloud Release 11 in the market, Cloud ERP got the much needed momentum that was missing earlier. Let’s take this opportunity in 2017 to delve more into the key concepts that are available in Oracle Supply Chain Management.

Below are the important modules that are part of Cloud SCM.

Before we start our journey with Inventory Management setups, let’s see some of the common setups that a functional consultant should be aware of.

Below are the 3 key setup areas in Cloud Inventory Setup :

1. Common Applications Setup
2. Common SCM Setup
3. Inventory Setup
   

Common Applications Setup comprises of all the setups that are required and shared across modules/pillars. For eg. UOMs, Flexfields, Users and Roles(similar to responsibilities in EBS), Organizations.

Common SCM Setup comprises of all the setups that are shared across SCM modules such as Items, Catalogs, Structures and Calendars

Inventory Setup comprises of setups that are specific to Inventory Module such as Subinventories and Locators, Transaction Sources, Transaction Types, Material Status, Receiving Parameters, Picking Rules and Assignments(so far Oracle didn’t introduce Warehouse Management System module and few of the key concepts such as picking rules are released as part of Inventory Management module itself)

Wherever possible, I will try to give one-to-one mapping between EBS and Cloud. Once you login with your credentials in vision instance, you will able to see the screen as shown below. Similar to our MFG/welcome and operations/welcome login details in any of the vision instance in EBS, we have few users who are readily available in Cloud vision instance. Below are the few common users that we can use for our practice.

I logged in with Casey Brown credentials and below is how your first screen looks like in Cloud. As marked in ‘Red’, help icon is available in every page of the Fusion Application which gives you instant help.

You can assume that each of the icon in the springboard is similar to the responsibilities that we see when we log in EBS. Once we click on any of those tiles/work areas, it will further expand to the major functions that are available in it. For eg. when i Click on ‘Product Management’ tile, it gives me the access to various key functions available in it such as ‘Product Information Management’, ‘Product Development’ etc. The below screenshot will give you a glimpse of how it looks like when you click on an infotile.

Alternatively you can navigate using the Navigator option as shown below.

In this example, I have clicked on ‘Inventory’ under ‘Warehouse Operations’ work area which will take me to Inventory related function. As Inventory module works at Organization level, the system enforces me to choose an Inventory Organization. Similar to what we have in EBS Vision instance(M1, M2, M3 orgs), we do have 001, 002, 003 etc in Cloud vision instance. Please select one organization to proceed further.

Once I choose the organization and click on OK, it takes me to the default dashboard as shown below.
Please see a '**' symbol before Item and Organization field. It does mean that the user need to provide some value in one of the fields that are marked as '**' which is either item or organization in this case.

Once you click on ‘Tasks Panel’ tab that is marked in the above screenshot, it will show you all the functions that can be performed for ‘Inventory’ option for this user such as ‘Create Miscellaneous Transaction’, ‘Create Subinventory Transfer’, ‘Create interorganization Transfer’,  ‘Manage Movement Requests’, ‘Manage Transfer Orders’, ‘Manage Pending Transactions’, ‘Review Completed Transactions’, ‘Manage Reservation Interface’, ‘Manage Lots’, ‘Manage Serial Numbers, ‘ Confirm Pick Slips’ etc. It also shows various functionalities that can be performed for ‘Consigned Inventory’ as shown below.

To perform any of those tasks, you just need to click the associated hyperlink which will take you to the corresponding task page.
